For four weeks over the summer I have been working as a hair and makeup trainee on the Disney production ‘Dumbo’, directed by Tim Burton. This placement has taught me so much and has been one of the best experiences in my career to date. I got this opportunity through MAKUP the Agency, founded by my wonderful tutor Veronica McAleer. I feel so fortunate and lucky to have been involved in such an amazing production and it is something I won’t forget for a very long time.
Everyday I got to watch period hairstyles and makeup looks being created by the industry’s most talented hair and make up artists. I was so lucky to be able to receive tips and new techniques from the artists. These tips I will remember forever.
I have been working in the industry for over a year now and have learnt the importance of gaining new contacts. Working on ‘Dumbo’ has allowed me to build on my contacts. I have met some amazing artists who have taken my details and I was even offered a job opportunity!
I feel ‘Dumbo’ has been a huge milestone for me and hopefully will change my future. I want to say a massive thanks to Veronica as, if it wasn’t for her, this amazing experience would not have been possible.
I have been extremely lucky to be back in Ireland working on a film by the Irish Film Board. I am excited to see what the future holds.
