Thanks to Veronica and MAKUP, I recently got the opportunity with a fellow student to experience being a proper trainee on a big film in Shepperton Studios in London. I’ve never been so excited and nervous at the same time – to experience working in the industry alongside some amazingly talented hair and makeup artists.

I was not sure what to expect, but Veronica ran through beforehand everything I needed to know, what I needed to bring, and what was expected from a trainee on the job. This eased my nerves and helped prepare me for the job.

I had to do basic trainee duties such as getting tea or coffees, breakfast and craft runs, cleaning brushes, tidying stations, preparing hot flannels and ensuring all cast members have the correct fitting sheet and they are all returned for the following day. I was also able to experience being on a real film set along side the makeup and hair artists as they carry out checks when needed.

Everyone was lovely and welcoming, I got to meet and learn from some fantastic people in the industry. Veronica kept an eye on us, made sure we were alright throughout the day, as well as the other experienced trainees I was working with. I was originally only doing 3 days at this job, but I was lucky to be asked to come back for another day! I really enjoyed myself and had a lot of fun doing this job.

I am so grateful to have been given the chance to work on this film by Veronica. The support and skills I have been given by MAKUP is unbelievable, and I have received a lot more opportunities than I did when I finished my University Degree (BA Specialist Hair and Media Make-up). For students that have already graduated, to still be recommended and recieve endless opportunities, is amazing and something that you will never find at any other course.
